Overview
One of the specialty liposuction techniques is called “abdominal etching” which allows us to shape the abdomen.
For the right patient, liposuction can treat them in an hour without the use of implants. Most individuals who choose abdominal etching are happy with their outcomes.
Abdominal etching removes fat deposits from your core in a sophisticated and methodical technique rather than simply trying to make you look thinner. Your abdominal wall is molded and shaped with this form of liposuction, making your abdominal muscles appear more pronounced.
Preparing for Surgery
To ensure you can have the operation safely, your medical history is examined, and you will be requested to visit your doctor for a physical examination and a few lab tests.
You have the option of having your own doctor’s examination to approve the surgery. A week before this treatment, you are asked to cease using any blood thinners, including aspirin and aspirin-like drugs (Motrin or Ibuprofen).
For the surgery to be performed properly and for you to experience the best outcomes, you are asked to stop smoking two weeks prior to and two weeks after the procedure.
The Abdominal Etching Procedure
The process is easy to follow and uncomplicated. When a patient is approved for the surgery, they are given antibiotics and are put under anesthesia in the operating room.
To reduce bleeding and provide some pain relief during surgery, the abdomen is injected with tumescent fluid. Then, to emphasize the “ripples” of the abdominal muscles, tiny incisions are made all around the belly and liposuction is carried out. The wounds are closed, and the patient is awakened once enough fat has been eliminated and the desired outlines have been achieved.
This surgery will result in brief swelling and bruising in the pubic area, which will go away in approximately a week. The outcomes, which typically take six months to a year, are extremely natural-looking and well-fit.
Recovery
It’s preferred that an adult accompany you for at least the first 24 hours following surgery and drive you to your follow-up appointment the following day. You will be told to limit your activity during the first week or two weeks after most procedures, which may include prohibiting flying, driving, and long-distance travel. Additionally, we ask that you hold off on exercising until the doctor gives the all-clear, which is typically four weeks after surgery.
For a minimum of two weeks, you must give up smoking. We advise eating a diet heavy in protein to improve healing. As with any surgical operation, you should expect varying degrees of bruising and swelling; light makeup may be worn to cover bruises at the beginning of a week following surgery.
Risks and Complications
Bleeding:
Prior to surgery, patients are examined by their own doctors and have lab testing performed to rule out any common bleeding conditions. With any type of liposuction, bleeding is uncommon. We administer a tumescent solution, which will constrict the blood vessels and lessen the bleeding, before executing the abdominal etching operation.
Infection/Wounds:
During the procedure, patients get the necessary intravenous antibiotic treatment. The patient’s skin surface is thoroughly cleansed before the operation. Patients are given antibiotic prescriptions after the operation to help prevent infection. Since there is no skin removal during liposuction, open wounds are incredibly uncommon.
Nerve Injury:
After surgery, a “stunned” nerve or a damaged nerve may temporarily lose sensation, although for most patients, sensibility returns within a few weeks.
Smoking:
Smoking is forbidden during abdominal etching. The blood flow to the skin and tissue is severely reduced during the healing process by the carbon monoxide and nicotine in cigarette smoke. As a result, there may be a greater chance of infection and skin death. To make sure individuals who have smoked in the past won’t be at risk during this surgery, a cotinine test is done on them.
